Listen to the top 30 Jazz Rock covers of great tracks by Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and more!
This is the second track on the Rebirth of the Kool album. As its name suggests, it is a tribute to legendary producer and bassist, Marcus Miller.
Spanish Keyz is the opening track on the Rebirth of the Kool album. It was inspired by Spanish Key, off Bitches Brew, but the only thing it has in common with the original is the classic trumpet ‘head’ that anchors the groove. The other 99% is brand new and highly improvised.
An original composition and a collaboration with the talented Vocalatti on vocals. Another popular one on Soundcloud.
This is another one of my original tracks. I like the muted guitar line that hold it together. It also features my first ever bass guitar solo!
My tribute to one of my fave jazz bands, Weather Report. Very Joe Zawinul!
This track is my first (and probably last) surf music track. The twangy Hank Marvin guitar is actually played on synth!
This is the first original track that I have posted for a year. I'm back in Jazz Funk territory again with a tribute to Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. For those of you tuned in to obscure musical references it has a bass line reminiscent of the track 'Chameleon' and some ethnic sounds like on the track 'Watermelon man' and no doubt more besides!
Here's another of my original tracks. I'm hoping this one will get you in the festive mood?
An original composition inspired by the Ronnie Laws' track 'Always There' - hence the title!. I play all instruments, arrange, produce the track. From the Back To Basics album.
This one has an exotic name! Another one written on synth.
Too soon for a tribute to wunderkind Jacob Collier? I don't think so. This is a modern Jazz funk fusion groove as a tribute to Jacob Collier
Funky time! This track features Alan Corne on drums
An original composition that boogies along. I play all instruments, arrange, produce the track. From the One Man Band album.
Absolutely nothing to do with Beatles track of the same name! It's dominated by a vocoder vocal complete with multi harmonies, it's amazing how technology can make even my voice bearable! I hope you like the Stevie Wonder harmonica solo.
If you love the groove then George should be one of your go to guys! I love electric piano and been listening to him a lot recently for inspiration, hence the approach to this tribute track. Guitar is my first instrument and I have nowhere near George's keyboard virtuosity so please forgive the rough edges on my 'Georgesque' synth solo; it's an honest attempt at the spirit of probably the greatest technical player of our time.
A blues/funk track featuring the astounding AJ Lewis on vocals.
A real stormer of a track featuring Alan Corne on drums
A track I wrote for a live set, guaranteed to get your feet tapping
I wrote a nice gospel like theme for this one. Indeed it progresses into a real 'jump up church' groove complete with handclaps.
Another more traditional jazz track from the Grooves album is Absent Friends. I was looking to swing and it seems to have worked. Basically a 12 bar blues structure I like to think it captures the spirit those early jazz groovers - the guys who were funky before James Brown, guys like Horace Silver and Eddie Harris.
Modal structrured Nu Jazz Fusion. This track has a passing similarity with the track Birdland by Weather Report
Brasilia is a latin style track featuring AJ Lewis on vocals. Ever since I heard George Duke's 'Brazilian Love Affair' I've wanted to do a Latin track. Here it is!
This track is for every musician who has done something dumb - like those brave Russian girls!
Full Phat Funk for all you groovemeisters! Features AJ (aged 6) for the voiceover with attitude! This is another one of my original tracks. I like the muted guitar line that hold it together. It also features my first ever bass guitar solo!
This is a smooth jazz track with some interesting drums on it
Bluesy, funky instrumental. A collaboration with Jamie Rhind, who did the Miles Davis style horns on the outro
A wild piece of jazz rock funk! I went through a very 'out there' phase on guitar. Check out Mwah (another track) if you like this one.
Here's a nod and a wink to Herbie Hancock. Recorded when I was first playing keys so not as technically good as my more recent stuff.
An original composition that boogies along. I play all instruments, arrange, produce the track. From the Back To Basics album.
The unmistakeable Mark Dorricott takes it to the next level with a superb piano solo (half way through). This is the vocal version of this featuring me singing!
