John Mayall Godfather of British Blues dies at 90

Whilst never achieving fame himself John Mayall was widely recognized for the talent he nurtured in his bands and for almost single handedly sparking the British Blues boom of the 1960's!

Who did he launch in his bands?

  1. Eric Clapton
  2. Jimmy Page
  3. Mick Taylor (The Rolling Stones)
  4. John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac)

and many more!

He was an unlikely candidate for the savior of the Blues, a white kid from Macclesfield England, but that is what he did.

In the 1960's the Blues was a dormant art form and he, along with Alexis Korner, revived it.

Could he, or anyone else, do that now? Would he be cancelled for misappropriation of Black American music?

It was a moment in time that's true. All I can say is that it was welcomed by the Blues artists whose songs he covered. When the Rolling Stones started doing Blues songs it relaunched the careers of many.
