Donna Summer AKA "The Queen of Disco" (born LaDonna Adrian Gaines; December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012) was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She gained prominence during the disco era of the late 1970s. She didn’t have the strongest voice but it had lots of character, perfect for the start of the electronic dance music that would later become the genre EDM.
1968 Moves to Germany to perform in the musical "Hair."
1974 Releases her debut album "Lady of the Night” which gains success in Europe.
1975 Gains international fame with the hit single "Love to Love You Baby."
1977 Releases the album "I Remember Yesterday” featuring the iconic track "I Feel Love”. Producer Giorgio Moroder invents a new dance sound built around drum machines and synthesizers which Donna benefits from. They co-wrote and produced the Donna Summer hit single "I Feel Love"
1978 Releases "Last Dance" from the "Thank God It's Friday" soundtrack, which wins her first Grammy Award.
1979 Releases the album "Bad Girls” which becomes a multi-platinum success with hits like "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls."
1980 Wins another Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for "Hot Stuff."
1983 Releases "She Works Hard for the Money” earning a Grammy nomination and commercial success.
1989 Releases the album "Another Place and Time” featuring the hit single "This Time I Know It's for Real."
1994 Inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame.
2012 Passes away from lung cancer at the age of 63.
