The Commodores are an American funk and soul band, which was at its peak in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Known for their smooth ballads and funk-driven dance hits, they are one of the most successful bands in Motown history.
1968 The Commodores are formed at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.
1974 Release their debut album "Machine Gun” which features the instrumental title track and showcases their funk style.
1977 Achieve major success with the ballad "Easy" from their self-titled album.
1978 Release "Natural High” which includes the hit single "Three Times a Lady."
1979 "Midnight Magic" features the hit "Still” continuing their streak of successful ballads.
1981 Release "In the Pocket” featuring the hit "Lady (You Bring Me Up)."
1982 Lionel Richie leaves the group to pursue a solo career, marking a significant change in the band's lineup.
1985 Win a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Nightshift."
1990s-2000s Continue to tour and perform with various lineup changes, maintaining their legacy in the music industry.
2003 Inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
2010 Release "No Tricks” their first album of original material in over a decade.
