1981
Metallica was formed in Los Angeles, California, by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield.
1982
Lineup Changes - Cliff Burton replaced Ron McGovney on bass. Dave Mustaine was later replaced by Kirk Hammett as lead guitarist.
1983
Debut Album "Kill 'Em All" - Released their debut album, which introduced their fast, aggressive style and laid the foundation for thrash metal.
1984
"Ride the Lightning" - Their second album included more complex song structures and themes.
1986
"Master of Puppets" - Considered one of the greatest metal albums of all time, it was their first album to be certified gold.
Tragedy - Bassist Cliff Burton died in a bus accident in Sweden while on tour. He was replaced by Jason Newsted.
1991
"Metallica" (The Black Album) - Released their self-titled album, which included hits like "Enter Sandman"

"Load" and "Reload" - These albums showcased a more hard rock and experimental approach
