1976 Chic was formed in New York City by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. The two were already successful session musicians before they decided to create their own band.

1985 Chic disbanded in 1983 but reformed in 1985, releasing the album "Chic-ism" in 1992.

1996 Tragically, Bernard Edwards passed away in 1996, but Nile Rodgers continued to perform and record under the Chic name.
